Welcome to the Brickwright Y-wing archive. Every Y-wing that is fit to print is contained here, from Canon, to Legends, to Concept, to real-world merchandise.

It began as a partial sketch of a cockpit by George Lucas, and was made into a physical concept model by Colin Cantwell, which had a few minor changes and was later made famous by its appearances in some of Ralph McQuarrie’s artwork. He also gave it its name and originated the “-Wing” naming convention. Joe Johnston then revised Cantwell’s Y-wing to work better against a blue screen, and then Steve Gawley made orthographic schematic-style drawings which tweaked it further. The models built for shooting were made by Grant McCune and his team of model builders: David Beasley, Jon Erland, Gawley, Paul Huston, David Jones, and Lorne Peterson, with additional model painting handled by Johnston.

Because of the ship’s incredibly detailed surface and lesser significance compared to the more famous X-wing, its shaping, details, and coloration varies much more from source-to-source than other starfighters.
