Station to Station (Back Cover)

In the midst of the transition from Diamond Dogs to Young Americans, Bowie had a photo shoot with Steve Shapiro in LA. One of the enduring images produced from the shoot was of Bowie in a skintight black suit that he had just painted with silvery white streaks. Bowie was heavily interested in Kabbalah at the time, and proceeded to draw the Tree of Life on the photo backdrop. The outfit would establish a recurring motif that he would revisit again and again. This particular look didn’t actually appear until 1976 when it was shown on the back cover of Station to Station.
