Bowie appeared as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live’s January 5, 1980 episode hosted by Martin Sheen. It was his only appearance on the show. He performed “The Man Who Sold The World”, “TVC 15”, and “Boys Keep Swinging”, and was flanked by Klaus Nomi and Joey Arias. “Boys Keep Swinging” employed a bizarre performance where his face was composited onto a small body with long, stringy arms. The special effects required to do so meant that it had to be shot in advance on December 15.

This minilander depicts the immobile vinyl(?) suit that he wore for “The Man Who Sold The World”. At the start of the song, Nomi and Arias picked up Bowie and moved him to the front of the stage.
