Diamond Dogs (Promo Photo)

Leading up to Diamond Dogs, Bowie had a photo shoot with Terry O’Neill. The shoot yielded publicity photos and reference photos for the album’s cover. This minilander is based upon one of the shoot’s most famous images. A white and black Great Dane was used for some of the photos, with Bowie holding its leash. It didn’t seem to be the most suited dog for photography, however, because it would jump every time the camera’s flash went off, barking angrily. While it startled the crew, Bowie didn’t react in the slightest (something that O’Neill attributed to the constant drugged state he was in).
